Jhonny Cay Suites is a five-storey apartahotel in Sarie Bay, a block from the water. Each suite is private and self-contained: its own bathroom, its own air conditioning, and in several of them a kitchen you can actually cook in.

It is built for the kind of stay where you unpack, buy fruit in the morning, and come back at four to sit by the window. Not a resort. A place to live from, on an island that rewards staying still.

    The Caribbean, just outside your door.

    San Andrés is a small Colombian island closer to Nicaragua than to the mainland, ringed by a reef that turns the water into bands of colour you can read from the plane. Sarie Bay is on its northern end, walking distance from the shore.

    The island is Raizal before it is anything else: English creole, Baptist churches, coconut and breadfruit. It is worth arriving with that in mind.

    On foot

    The airport

    Gustavo Rojas Pinilla (ADZ) is at the same northern end of the island, and Sarie Bay is the neighbourhood next to it — under a kilometre, walkable with a bag.

    The main beach

    Spratt Bight

    450 metres of white sand in the North End. A two-kilometre pedestrian promenade runs along Avenida Colombia beside it, lined with cafés, bars and shops.

    Off the beach

    Johnny Cay

    The green islet about two kilometres north, straight out from Spratt Bight. Boats leave from the beach in the morning and come back early in the afternoon. You can see it from the windows here.
